We want our Omega to look and perform its best. This short guide walks us through six safe, practical steps to clean our watch without risking damage — whether it’s a daily beater or a cherished heirloom, and enjoy it longer.

Step 1: Prepare the Watch — Safety First
Why removing the strap and double-checking seals is the pro trick we shouldn’t skip.Set the crown to the closed position and, where possible, remove the strap or bracelet so we can reach the lugs and keep leather dry. Work on a flat surface over a soft towel to prevent slips and scratches.
For example: if our Omega has a leather strap, take it off to avoid soaking; if it’s a Seamaster with proper water resistance, ensure the screw-down crown is snug before rinsing.
Step 2: Clean the Case and Bracelet Gently
Like giving our watch a spa day — minus the harsh treatments that strip finishes.Make a warm water bath with a drop of mild dish soap and use a soft brush to loosen dirt on metal bracelets and the case. Work carefully and keep motions gentle.
For example: if our Speedmaster bracelet is stainless steel, a short soak and gentle brushing between links will restore shine without risk.
Step 3: Tackle Crevices, Bezel and Lug Holes
Those hidden crumbs and grit? They’re more damaging than they look — let’s get into the nooks.Use an interdental brush, a toothpick wrapped in a microfiber or peg wood to dislodge grime around the bezel, crown, bracelet end links and lug holes. Work in short, controlled strokes and keep the cloth wrapped around the pick so we don’t scratch the metal.
Rotate the bezel while rinsing (or under the running tap) to flush trapped sand or salt from under the teeth — great after a beach day when grit hides in the gaps.
Blow out loosened particles with compressed air only at low pressure to avoid popping seals.
Repeat gentle brushing if dirt remains rather than escalating to harsher tools.
Step 4: Care for the Crystal and Dial — Clear and Scratch-Free
A clearer face makes the whole watch look newer — and we don’t need risky tricks to achieve it.Wipe the crystal with a clean, soft microfiber cloth and a tiny dab of mild soapy water or a specialist lens cleaner.
Use gentle, circular strokes and check for streaks under a lamp — for example, tilt the watch toward the light to spot smudges.
Apply a pea-size amount of PolyWatch to acrylic crystals and polish in small, controlled circles until fine scratches fade.
Avoid polishing compounds on sapphire and mineral crystals; instead, focus on careful cleaning and patting dry.
Never open the case back or touch the dial or hands — we protect the movement.
Keep the crown firmly closed while cleaning to prevent moisture ingress.
Dry the crystal fully with a fresh microfiber cloth to remove streaks; if streaks persist, buff gently in one direction.
Step 5: Clean and Refinish the Strap — Tailored Care
Leather, metal or rubber — each strap gets VIP treatment so our Omega looks and wears its best.Treat leather: wipe with a slightly damp microfiber, apply a small amount of leather cleaner, then condition sparingly. Never soak leather — for example, wipe the underside after a sweaty day to prevent odor and staining.
Hand-wash Nato and fabric straps in a mild soap bath, scrub gently with a soft brush, rinse, and air-dry flat to keep shape.
Clean rubber and silicone with soapy water and a thorough rinse; inspect for cracks or brittleness and replace if needed.
Clean metal bracelets like the case, or use a gentle ultrasonic bath only if the bracelet is robust and we’re sure seals are intact — otherwise avoid it.
Reattach straps carefully, check spring bars and endlinks for security, and tug gently to confirm they’re seated.
Step 6: Final Checks, Drying and Ongoing Care
Don’t stop at shiny — verify seals, drying, and a maintenance plan so this shine lasts.Dry the watch and strap completely in a warm, well-ventilated spot — no direct heat. For example, lay the watch on a clean towel near a fan or open window and let it air until fully dry.
Operate the crown and pushers to confirm smooth function; we’ll wind, set the time, and run chronograph buttons to feel for stiffness or unusual resistance.
Schedule light cleaning every 2–3 months and full servicing as the manufacturer recommends to protect movement and seals.
